VENUE DIRECTOR REQUIRED
The Directors of Tipperary Excel Arts Centre seeks an inspirational, talented and energetic Venue Director to lead Tipperary Excel Arts Centre. The purpose of this new post is to achieve the strategic, artistic and developmental objectives of the arts centre. This is a great opportunity for a very passionate individual who would like to play their part in ensuring Tipperary Excel is a chosen arts and cultural destination in the region and continues to delivery for the people of South Tipperary. The successful candidate will report to Tipperary Excel Board. In addition will work closely with the board to develop important policies, such as artistic and cultural, fiscally and operationally, implement such policies and to report on the progress of that implementation.
Tipperary Excel Arts Centre
Opened in 2001, Tipperary Excel Arts Centre is located in the heart of Tipperary Town, Co Tipperary. This centre of excellence houses the purpose built 360 seater Simon Ryan Theatre, art gallery, cinema, dance studio and Family Heritage Research Facility. In addition it is home to the internationally recognised contemporary dance residence; Tipperary Dance Platform. It houses The French Quarter Café. 2018 sees Tipperary Town Library relocated to the arts centre. Tipperary Excel Arts Centre operates under the guidance of Tipperary Heritage Co Ltd board of directors, which is made up of local representatives and other interested parties.
Key Objectives and Responsibilities
To manage the overall activities of the arts centre business in line with board approval, in a manner that achieves the key artistic, stakeholder and financial objectives.
The ideal candidate will need to lead, inspire and support Tipperary Excel Team. Oversee all operational matters; including health and safety of employees, stake holders, patrons and volunteers alike.
To source and /or generate an artistic and commercial programme that meets the needs of the arts centre, with particular emphasis on efficient scheduling of the building, timely completion of contracts, efficient communication with incoming companies and regular analysis of the performance of programmed shown and exhibitions.
To achieve the financial objectives for the arts centre, including budget and debt management, all the while operating to the highest standards of corporate governance.
To manage relations with key stakeholders to the benefit of the arts centre, including tenants, patrons, and volunteers.
To devise and implement strategies to further develop the arts centre’s operations and enhance the return from the box office, theatre bar, cinema shop and other revenue streams. Work closely with the Board regarding the sourcing of industry funding.
With the support of the Assistant Manager to establish / maintain contracts for facility systems and to ensure that scheduled maintenance is carried out. To schedule regular maintenance work on the facility to keep the physical environment up to best industry practice.
A minimum three years relevant senior management experience of an arts organization, preferably venue based
Excellent Management and HR Skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent understanding of Irish & International, traditional & contemporary multi- disciplinary performing arts,
Excellent business and audience development skills
Experience of project management
Experience of fundraising
The ability to lead and shape the future development of Tipperary Excel Arts Centre
Terms and Conditions
The successful candidate will report to the Tipperary Excel Board of Directors or such other person as assigned by the Board
Annual Salary: Salary negotiable commensurate with skills and experience. Probationary period: Six months
Duty at weekend and at night (as required) will be an integral part of the working week as part of a flexible working policy.
